Fruit Smoothies

You can use fresh or canned pears for these pear smoothie recipes. Similar to peaches in regards to smoothies, canned or fresh pears mix well with other smoothie ingredients. Because pears have a somewhat mild taste, these smoothies have a tendency to lose that “pear” taste when blended with other fruits and vegetables. So if you want to taste just pear, be cautious of what you add to your smoothie.

About Pears

Harvested pears are still green and not fully ripe. They ripen at room temperature and ripen quicker when sitting next to bananas. Placing pears in refrigerators slows the ripening process, however. To check a pear’s ripeness, press on its stem end to gauge its firmness. If it feels slightly soft and flexible, then it is ripe. If it resists pressure from your finger, let it sit out for a little longer.

Musical instruments such as oboes and flutes use pear tree wood in their construction. Pear wood makes excellent furniture and firewood, and is favored for cooking spoons because it is so mild and will not alter the flavor of food.

Pears are excellent sources of fiber, B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium and potassium, and eating them is a truly delicious way to increase your daily intake of these nutrients.

Pear Smoothie Recipes

Pear Smoothie
2 pear halves with 1/4 cup pear juice
1/4 Cup grape juice
1/2 Cup pineapple chunks
1/2 Cup ice cubes
Add to blender and blend until smooth.

Pear and Banana Smoothie
1 pear cut in slices or 2 pear halves
1 banana
1/4 Cup milk
1/2 Cup yogurt any flavor
4-5 ice cubes
Add to blender and blend until smooth.

Pear Nut Smoothie
1 ripe banana, peeled and frozen
1/4 cup raw nuts (pecans, cashews, almonds)
2 ripe pears
2 tablespoons honey
1/2 cup of pure water
8-12 ice cubes
Add to blender and blend until smooth If you want to spice it up, add a hint of cinnamon to your pear smoothie.

Pear and Yogurt Smoothie

1 soft banana
1 peeled and cored ripe pear
1 4 oz. frozen whipped fruit yogurt
1/2 cup milk (any kind)

Add all ingredients to blender and pulse until smooth.

Tom’s Pear smoothie

6 to 10 strawberries
2 bananas
150g raspberries
ice cream (strawberry)
1 pear
Blend until smooth.

Simple Pear Smoothie
2 pears, chopped or sliced
1 Cup pear or peach yogurt
1 Cup apple juice
5-6 ice cubes
Blend together until smooth.

Pomegranate Peach Pear Smoothie
1/2 cup pomegranate sauce (seedless)
1 can of sliced peaches and pears with juice
1/2 cup orange juice
Blend until smooth
