Pina Colada Smoothies

Unique Flavors

Sipping a pina colada smoothie and enjoying the company of friends on a warm, breezy evening is the perfect end to a summer day for many people. A sweet-tasting drink made with rum, coconut milk or cream of coconut and pineapple juice, Pina coladas are generally mixed with crushed ice and shaken in a metal container. Garnishment consists of fruit wedges or maraschino cherries.

As the official beverage of Puerto Rico, a pina colada can be served with or without rum. If you do not want to use rum in your smoothie, use fruit juice or drink mixers instead. Pina coladas drink mixers come in pre-measured packets and taste similar to rum, but without the bite of alcohol.

In addition, coconut milk, meat, water (from unripe green coconuts) and coconut oil – all usable in a pina colada smoothie – contain “good” fats not found in most other fruits. These medium-chain fatty acids easily metabolize in the human body, promoting healthy functioning of heart and skeletal muscles.
